The Revolution

This art print depicts a woman with a large afro at the center of a crowd, her eyes obscured in red, flanked by figures in berets reminiscent of Black Panther Party attire. The piece is rendered in a stylized, muted red and sepia palette.

The piece is named for the Rainbow Coalition, founded in Chicago in 1969 by Fred Hampton of the Illinois Black Panther Party, William "Preacherman" Fesperman of the Young Patriots Organization, and José "Cha Cha" Jiménez of the Young Lords. The coalition brought together Black, Puerto Rican, and poor white Appalachian communities in a shared struggle against poverty and police brutality, built on the idea that class solidarity across racial lines could achieve more than any group could alone.
