Police Brutality

Police Brutality is an artwork that promotes social justice, inspiring change and reflecting on the reality of racial injustice in the present day. The campaign group 8cantwait has identified eight key policies that could help reduce the use of excessive force by police officers and improve overall safety for marginalized communities. These include banning chokeholds and strangleholds, requiring de-escalation to be used when possible, calling for warnings before shooting takes place, ensuring officers exhaust every available option other than shooting, mandating intervention if a fellow officer uses excessive force, prohibiting shooting at moving vehicles, establishing a Force Continuum to limit the most severe forms of force to only extreme situations, and requiring reports after each use of force. It’s time for meaningful change–and this piece of art can highlight that need for progress.
